Rat a la Sony

Someone on Ravelry asked for a pattern for my dead mouse cozy for my mp3 player. This is more of a guide than a pattern:

Yarn: Any double knit yarn in grey for the body. A bit of red for the tongue and eyes and black for the nose.
Gauge: 22 stitches in 10 cm
Meterage: ca. 25 meter
Needle: 3.5 mm
Hook: 2.5 mm

This guide is for a Sony Walkman NW-A3000 measuring in at 65.2x104.2x21.4mm

Body
Cast on 35 stitches and join for knitting in the round being careful not to twist the stitches.
Knit 3 rows
Next row: [K3, K2tog, yo] until end
Continue to knit every round until the piece measures approx. 13cm.
Bind off using the three needle bind off method.

Ears
Pick up 3 stitches.
Row 1+ 2: Knit
Row 3: Kfb, k1, kfb
Row 4: Knit
Row 5: Kfb, k3, kfb
Row 6: Knit
Row 7: K2tog, k3, k2tog
Row 8: Knit
Row 9: k2tog, k1, k2tog
Row 10: knit
Row 11: k3tog.

Repeat for second ear

Tail
Cast on 2 stitches and make an i-cord:
Knit without turning, slip the stitches back to the beginning of the needle and knit again.

Continue in this fashion until the tail is long enough for your liking. In my case I ended up making a 30cm long tail.

BO.

At one end of the tail use a crochet hook to make a small loop for the other end to go through. [this can also be accomplished by carefully pulling on one of the stitches and threading the other tail end through the loop]

Finishing
Turn the body inside out.

Embroider the nose and eyes according to the photos. Pull a bit of red yarn through to form the tongue and secure it inside your cozy.

Thread the tail through the eyelets beginning and ending at the middle of the body.

Secure the tail by pulling one end through the loop you made previously.

Place your mp3 player in your rat and just press play.
